YouTube continues to expand its role in modern media strategy, but planners have long faced a familiar challenge: forecasting true reach potential requires stitching together assumptions, spreadsheets, and incomplete tools.

To solve this, the M1M Tech team built something new.

Meet the M1M YouTube Reach Curve Planner (YTRC Planner) — a custom-built application that integrates directly with Google’s ReachPlanService API to instantly model reach, frequency, and efficiency across YouTube and Google Video formats.

It’s designed to give planners a clearer, more reliable way to evaluate how different investments and product mixes influence campaign impact.

Why & how we built it.

Accurately sizing YouTube opportunities is essential, but traditional planning workflows often make it difficult to compare formats, test investment scenarios, or quantify the impact of alternative strategies.

Our goal was to create a tool that removes this friction and delivers fast, trustworthy modeling grounded in Google’s own data ecosystem.

The YTRC Planner brings this to life through a technical foundation built for planners:

By combining these components, planners can quickly identify diminishing returns, spot efficiency differences across product mixes, and explore “what-if” scenarios without relying on manual calculations or static planning tools. The result is a clearer, more strategic view of YouTube investment decisions.

Advanced use cases.

In addition to the core planning tool, we developed a specialized version for one of our CPG partners that combines YouTube reach modeling with external attention metrics within BarkleyOKRP’s AURA reporting platform.

By blending platform-modeled outcomes with attention diagnostics, the enhanced version gives teams a more holistic view of how format choices may influence overall media effectiveness.

It also demonstrates the flexibility of the Reach Curve Planner framework—capable of integrating additional data sources when advanced client needs arise.

What the tool unlocks and where it’s headed.

During a recent planning cycle, one brand team used the Reach Curve Planner to evaluate alternative YouTube placements beyond their historically preferred formats.

By modeling multiple combinations of audiences and product types, they uncovered meaningful differences in potential reach—insights that weren’t visible through static tools or legacy assumptions.

Discoveries like these highlight how the Planner helps teams identify new opportunities, quantify trade-offs, and strengthen recommendations with modeled evidence.

As YouTube and Google’s video ecosystem continues to evolve, planners need flexible tools that make strategy development more precise, efficient, and transparent.

The YTRC Planner is built with that future in mind: adaptable, data-driven, and ready to support more advanced integrations as client needs grow.

Let’s build smarter, more confident YouTube plans together.
